Moves patients to and from clinical units and various diagnostic/treatment areas via a wheelchair, stretcher, or bed which may include patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips, and other equipment. Coordinates patient transport activities in the facility as well as at the entrances. Responds to various alerts to prevent and assist with emergent situations. Transports patients in a safe and timely manner as directed by medical professional staff and established policies and procedures. Assists in retrieving, cleaning and storage of all patient transport equipment. Completes all training requirements and attends in-service education and scheduled departmental staff meetings for transportation planning and initiatives. Supports patient throughput and hospital capacity initiatives by using transport software, to facilitate timely patient transports. Coordinates activities in the discharged patient holding area. Handles portable oxygen cylinders safely. Obtains transport equipment for transport. Receives and documents patient transportation assignments. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. Ability to demonstrate the importance of and ability to provide a high level of customer service. Ability to display a compassionate, positive, and upbeat disposition in interactions with customers/patients. Ability to multi-task and take initiative. American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 180 Days. Physical Demands: Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
